G. B. Carson’s areas of specialization are 19th and 20th century and contemporary American and European art, including paintings, sculpture, drawings, prints and photographs, with a particular emphasis on the art of California and the West. His services include appraisals for estates, insurance and charitable donations.

In forty years of practice, his clients include individuals and families, notable collectors, major corporations, insurance companies, cultural institutions, and art dealers. Leading museums and art galleries in California and Montana, as well as nationally, regularly refer clients to him.

Mr. Carson has been qualified as an expert witness in art-related cases in federal and state courts and by the American Arbitration Association.

Mr. Carson was born in Montana and graduated in 1977 from the History of Art program at the University of California, Berkeley. In 1978 he joined the San Francisco firm of Dr. Joseph Armstrong Baird, Jr. Art Consultation and Appraisals. He established his own art appraisal office in 1982, and has been based in Berkeley since 1985. A branch office was opened in Montana in 2002. Mr. Carson has been associated with many San Francisco art galleries and art publishing concerns, and has acted as agent and business manager for several prominent Bay Area and Montana artists. Extensive, ongoing travel to North American and European galleries and museums has enriched his familiarity with art and the art market.
